Day 16: Submission to God

Submission to God’s Will: The Path to Freedom

Submission to God’s will, as exemplified by Jesus in Luke 22:42, is a pivotal point of transformation and growth.

Understanding the Heart of Submission

Submission to God is not about passive resignation but an active, intentional alignment of our will with God’s perfect plan. It is an acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty, a recognition that His plans are always for our good, even when they diverge from our personal aspirations or understanding. Submission is an expression of trust, a belief that God’s wisdom surpasses our own limited perspective.

The Challenge of Letting Go

Our natural inclinations often lead us towards asserting our own will. Yet, in the example of Jesus — “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done” — we find a powerful model of surrender. This act of yielding our desires, plans, and control in favor of God’s perfect will requires a profound trust in His wisdom and love.

Cultivating a Spirit of Submission

  1. Prayerful Alignment: Regularly seek to align your will with God’s in prayer. It’s a space to express our desires while opening ourselves to God’s guidance.
  2. Scriptural Meditation: Immersing in the Scriptures is crucial. Reflect on passages where biblical figures like Paul and Jonah submitted to God’s will, transforming their lives.
  3. Daily Obedience: Practice daily obedience to God’s commands, as revealed in Scripture and through the Holy Spirit. It’s in these daily acts that submission becomes a living practice.
  4. Embracing Challenges as Opportunities: View life’s difficulties and trials as chances to trust and submit to God’s plan, believing in His promise to work all things for our good.

The Freedom Found in Submission

Contrary to what the world might suggest, there is tremendous freedom in submitting to God. It liberates us from the burden of self-reliance and leads us into a peace that comes from knowing we are in God’s capable hands. This submission fosters a deeper trust in God and cultivates maturity in our faith.

Lord, teach us the art of submission. Help us to trust You completely, surrendering our plans, hopes, and fears into Your loving hands. May our lives reflect our commitment to Your will, finding peace, strength, and freedom in Your perfect plan for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

As we affirm, “All to Jesus I surrender,” let this not just be a declaration but a lived reality. Embracing submission to God’s will is embracing the path to true freedom — freedom from self, freedom to love, and freedom to live in the fullness of God’s perfect plan for our lives.

All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give;

I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live.

I surrender all, I surrender all.

All to Thee, my blessed Savior, I surrender all.
